Take it to the Heritage House | Celebrating Black-Owned Brands at SoSis Featuring Jasmine Griffin
Let us introduce you to a brand built to "light the way."
Heritage House Candle Company was started in 2017 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The brand was founded as a creative venture to raise funds for Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs).
Heritage House Candle Company's founder, Jasmine Griffin, grew up on Southern University's campus - at the Southern University Laboratory School. She understands more than anyone how institutions like these help to shape and inspire generations.
The core of Heritage House Candle Company is giving back to HBCUs (and other colleges/universities). How incredible is it for one brand to have such a singular and powerful purpose? It made adding this brand to our collection of Louisiana makers easy.
Welcome to SoSis, Heritage House Candle Company!
We are SO excited to add Heritage House Candle Company candles to SoSis - in store and online. Adding more Black brands to our offerings has been one of our big goals as of late. Heritage House and Pixel Collective are two we've added in 2020 and 2021. We hope to add even more soon (leave your suggestions below)!
In Jasmine's own words about Black History Month:
Black history month means a lot to me as a budding black entrepreneur. Our country’s history paired with recent political events have made social issues such as inequality one of the main topics of conversation in America. Although we reflect on the hardships black people have experienced, this month is a beautiful time of celebration on astounding achievements. These successes have benefited all Americans. Moreover, many of these achievements were born out of ingenuity and the entrepreneurial spirit!
I like to think that being an entrepreneur runs in my blood. My father owned an HVAC company and other family members own successful businesses as well. Additionally, my grandmother founded Mobile, Alabama’s first black magazine, The Mobile Review, and was editor-in-chief.
My natural thirst for creativity and wanting to give back to my community was a catalyst for me to start The Heritage House Candle Company. We donate a portion of proceeds to academic scholarships across America for HBCUs and other accredited colleges. This company allows me to be an successful entrepreneur, have creative outlet, and invest in communities. That is what I like to call lighting the way for myself and others.
Today, Heritage House Candles has expanded to help support the majority of accredited college and universities across the United States. Join us in supporting higher education for the betterment of our community.
We are incredibly inspired by Jasmine. Her brand has pushed us to open ourselves up to learning about the power of HBCUs and the role they play in shaping and inspiring communities. We hope you will give some of her products a try - whether you buy them from SoSis or directly from her online shop. Your purchase makes a difference. Your purchase impacts many.
