My weekday mornings start off with an alarm buzzing in my ear at 5 a.m. After snoozing once (maybe twice), I get up and start my day, shower, get myself ready only to realize it's already 6 a.m. and I still have tons to do before me and my three kids walk out the door.
Everyday I tell myself that this will be a good day - no screaming and running frantic to get everyone up and ready for school, but who am I kidding? Every morning I still manage to raise my voice and run around the house in a frantic. My family's morning routine could probably make one hell of a sitcom.
After getting everyone ready, it's time to load up the ole' minivan and drop everyone off - three kids, three different places to drop off. My youngest son, Cameron (age three), spends his days at daycare. My oldest, Caiden (age 10), is a fifth grader at Holy Family School. Adriana (age four) comes with me to Brusly Elementary where I teach and she is in pre-K.
Once Adriana and I get to school, my day gets off to its real start as a Kindergarden para professional to 18 little ones. Some people may think I'm crazy, but I can honestly say that I really love my job.
Around 2:45 p.m., my school day ends and Adriana (better known as sissy) and I head to pick up Caiden from school. Usually we go visit my mom for a little while before I head to pick up the smallest rugrat, Cameron (everyone calls him Cam). Once we all pick up Cam, we head home to enjoy a nice, relaxing, quiet evening....ha.....yeah right.
It's straight to homework, cooking, cleaning, laundry, "mom can you get this?" and "mom I'm hungry." Looks like breakfast for supper again tonight! Hurrying to try to make our 8 p.m. bed time, which normally turns into 9 p.m., we eat, bathe, brush our teeth and tuck everyone in for the night.
It's not until that time that I get to enjoy a little bit of quiet. My nighttime routine usually only takes a few minutes because I'm so ready to get to bed myself. I think it takes me a few seconds to fall asleep, then it's back at it again at 5 a.m. the next morning.
Even with all this chaos, I love those three babies with every piece of my being. They make me laugh, make me cry and fill my heart with so much happiness. It's hard to put into words. Sometimes just seeing how much they are growing right in front of me brings tears to my eyes.
I thank God everyday for choosing me to be their mom. It really is the greatest gift.
I hope that our day-to-day routine teaches these three to hold true to core values I try to instill in them: always thank the Lord, respect others, stay humble and be kind.
