Yesterday, as I sat in my kitchen enjoying my last day off of work for a few days, I started to think about missing Mother's Day with my family this year. As a labor and delivery nurse, I sometimes miss the holidays and get-togethers that other families enjoy. A perfect example is this Mother's Day when I'll be working to help other women bring their beautiful bundles of joy into this world. This is both rewarding and hard at the same time because I will be missing my own family and the perks of being a mom on Mother's Day.
It's no secret - being a working mom has its challenges. A typical working day in my household is waking up at 4:50 a.m. (oh how I miss sleeping in) to get myself dressed, get my 15-month-old daughter, Bradlee, ready while she's still sleeping, put her in the car, drive 30 minutes to my mom's house and put Bradlee back to sleep. I do this all to be at work for 6:30 a.m. (and I'm late almost every day). Around 7 p.m., I meet my mom at Hobby Lobby to pick Bradlee up and go home to meet "Daddy" (our mutual favorite person).
Once we're home, it's bath time! Luckily, I have a great mom who who already has Bradlee fed and ready for her bath.
Whew just seeing all that written down I thank the Lord I only work three days a week!
Long gone are the days where I could come home, pour a glass of wine, grab my kindle and sit in the tub until I turn into a prune. My wine is now gulped down instead of savored. My baths/showers usually consist of Bradlee jumping in with me!
I wouldn't change a thing. I can't imagine my life without that baby girl.
I would not be able to be the very best mother I can be to Bradlee without the help and support of my husband, Brian - better known as Daddy. It's crazy to think that God entrusted Brian and I to mold this young girl. We are far from perfect, but we are doing our very best and I think that's just what Bradlee needs.
That tiny little human has stolen our hearts with her sassy "No! No! No's!" and her cheesy smiles. She is carefree and playful, sassy and stubborn (definitely gets that from Daddy ;), vibrant and full of life. Her cheesy, six-toothed smile is all I need to bring me back to reality sometimes. She is my sidekick who goes everywhere with me (even to the bathroom, unfortunately).
I hope that one day she will grow up to be a beautiful Godly woman who loves unconditionally, respects others, is kind and confident in herself. Until then, I will enjoy all the moments I get with her as my baby girl because like everyone says "it passes by in a flash."
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!
